Net Positive Labs supported initiatives to expand access to distributed solar energy in Spain, one of Europe’s most favourable markets for solar adoption due to high irradiation levels, supportive policy reforms, and rising electricity prices. Working alongside partners in the renewable energy ecosystem, the collaboration focused on deploying residential and small commercial solar installations while exploring new business models that reduce upfront investment, simplify installation and maintenance, and provide alternatives to full system ownership. Through the deployment of several hundred installations and the expansion of operations across multiple regions, the initiative contributed to accelerating solar adoption and supporting Spain’s broader transition toward a more decentralised and renewable energy system.
Spain has emerged as one of Europe’s most attractive markets for renewable energy. The country benefits from some of the highest solar irradiation levels in the European Union, making solar energy one of the most economically competitive sources of electricity.
National policy reforms over the past decade have accelerated the transition. Spain aims to generate 74% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and reach 100% renewable electricity by 2050, supported by regulatory reforms that encourage distributed energy generation and community energy initiatives.
At the same time, rising electricity prices have significantly shortened the payback period for solar installations. These conditions have led to rapid growth in rooftop solar adoption by households, businesses, and energy cooperatives across the country.
Despite this strong momentum, many consumers still face barriers when adopting solar energy, including financing challenges, technical complexity, and uncertainty around installation ownership models.

In particular, there is increasing demand for solutions that:
